RAZIYE KUBAT (2013)
Yusuf in the House of Birds From the series "The Story of Yusuf" Mixed media 21 x 30 cm 2300,- Euro + 7 % VAT Raziye Kubat's work series "The Story of Yusuf" tells the refugee story of a Cherkessian family into Istanbul in the 20th century in about fifty mixed media images on paper accompanied by an artist book written by Raziye Kubat. “I managed to write the story of Yusuf starting from 1864 until the 1940s. But even if you start from a certain point, you keep encountering other people all your life. And in a way, you become their fellow – to share with them their past as well. Then you go on with some other pasts, and at the end, all this accumulation turns into a multitude of belongings.” Raziye Kubat The series "The Story of Yussuf" has first been exhibited in the 4th International Çanakkale Biennial "Only the Dead Have Seen the End of War" curated by Beral Madra in 2014. It was shown last in the Mnemosyne exhibition "5 'o Clock Tea" curated by House of Taswir at the German Consulate General Istanbul, June 2020. Raziye Kubat, born in Malatya, Turkey, is a widely exhibited visual artist working in mixed media, painting, drawing, prints, and video works. She lives and works in Istanbul.
