Vernissage: 05. October, 2024,
4-7 pm

MKM Gallery shows Eva Koethen's sculpture GOLEM IN RUINS (2024) made of found objects – four rusted iron pipes standing together in a group. Their backs showing harsh injuries, the collective conveys a vulnerability contrasted by a miraculous stability and a unified sense of direction. The title GOLEM IN RUINS relates this work to the medieval automaton created by Jewish mystics as a result of their intense optimistic effort to counteract the withdrawal of humanity by manufacturing a humanoid robot defying moral decay and disaster. Eva Koethen studied Fine Arts and Art Sciences in Munich and Berlin, earning her Ph.D. under Max Imdahl in Bochum. She taught at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin and held professorships at Leibniz University Hannover . Eva Koethen exhibits her work internationally in solo and group exhibitions, including the US, Japan and China. Solo & Friends exhibitions are dedicated to one single position, accompanied by the entire current ensemble of MKM artists. Eva Koethen's "Golem in Ruins" is accompanied by works of Taysir Batniji, Walid Raad, Maryam Motallebzadeh, Chaza Charafeddine, Benyamin Reich, Ali Kaaf, Željka Mićanović Miljković, Ekin Su Koç, Emin Turan, Elisabeth Masé, Patricia Lambertus, Razan Nassreddine, Alexander Polzin, Chris Newman, Raziye Kubat, Maliheh Afnan, Katharina Karrenberg, Joseph Sassoon Semah, a.o.
